His writings, grounded in a perspective that examines the past and future of the Japanese people, as well as his keen intellect and keen eye for observation, are a life’s work that we wish to continue reading—especially now, as we mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 100th anniversary of the Shōwa era, at a time when the world is in turmoil.
 

 
To mark the 30th anniversary of the author’s passing, we are releasing a pre-order-only box set featuring the complete 43-volume set of *Walking the Roads* plus the 44-volume paperback edition of *Walking the Roads: Night Talks*—a collection of travel essays that complement the series.
