One day about 20 years ago, I, a newspaper reporter, became the father of a developmentally disabled child. What kind of disability does he have, how should I raise him, and is there any support available? I decided to start reporting for myself, who knew nothing, and for the parents, teachers, welfare workers, and others who were seeking the same information.
How has society changed since then? What choices have parents made and how have the people involved grown?
And have I, as a parent, changed in any way?
This is a moving nonfiction book that follows the lives of people with developmental disabilities and those who support them.
